One Year Ago
One year ago today...
Joe and I awoke in a hotel to a text message from her sister saying "she's about to start pushing!"
One year ago today...
Joe and I ran to Target and picked out a special sock monkey for a special boy.
One year ago today...
we killed time at a Mexican restaurant while waiting for updates.
One year ago today...
from that same mexican restaurant, we texted our families announcing that he was born.
One year ago today...
her family gave us hugs saying we are all family now.
One year ago today...
we spent the afternoon in the waiting room with her two best friends and watched Saved by The Bell reruns while wondering what was going on.
One year ago today...
a young timid nurse walked into our room and said the words "she is having second thoughts..."
One year ago today...
we looked her in the eye and said "please do not consider our feelings when making your decision. We are here to support you no matter what your decision is."
One year ago today...
her father walked us out and said "Thank you, thank you for your kind words you have said to my daughter."
And today, as I log into facebook and see her update about her son's first birthday, I can only smile knowing we did everything right, and I wouldn't take it back for a second.

All by myself!
Hi folks!
Hayden here, just wanting to show you some things that I can do
ALL BY MYSELF!
ALL BY MYSELF!
Did you know that I can take all my toys off the shelves and out of the toy buckets and spread them all over the floor? It's so much fun!
And did you know that I can pull myself up in front of the bay window and walk all along it while holding on? It's just my size!
And my new favorite thing is going down UP my new slide!
I can go down all by myself but trying to go up is much more difficult FUN!
As soon as I figured out how to crawl, my whole world opened up. The places to play and things to get into are endless! Mainly, it's when Mommy and Daddy are doing something fun like unloading the dishwasher or when they leave the bathroom door open! Then I can pull myself up holding onto the top rack of the dishwasher, grab big spoons out of the dishwasher, stick my hands in the toilet water or get into all the cabinets! I love exploring all these new places!
My parents think that I'll be walking soon, but little do they know I'm planning on RUNNING soon!
Check you later,
Hayden

Dreams Awake
I've had this image in my head for years, having hope that someday my day dream will become a reality.
The image is of our someday future child, sitting next to his best friend Finnegan staring out the door at squirrels, neighbors catching the bus, or the orange fall leaves blowing across the sidewalk.
This morning as I was getting ready for work, Joe said "You've got to come see this!"
As I turned the corner in our kitchen, this is what I saw...
A boy and his dog, watching the squirrels, leafs falling and waiting side by side for grandma to come spend the day with them.
The image is of our someday future child, sitting next to his best friend Finnegan staring out the door at squirrels, neighbors catching the bus, or the orange fall leaves blowing across the sidewalk.

As I turned the corner in our kitchen, this is what I saw...

Our truest life is when we are in dreams awake.
